Some History: Ancient Pireaus until the revolution of 1821
Browsing memories, we learn that the history of Piraeus is lost in the depths of centuries.. In antiquity, Piraeus was a small town and an island, as its name declares, which came from the verb "pereoo" that means "I pass someone to the other side". Later it joined the mainland by the alluvial material the torrents had carried away. Thus, a peninsula was created, now known as "Piraeus peninsula". The life here seems to be beating from the prehistoric times.. The oldest human remains were discovered in the area of Kastella, where we currently, where we currently find the Yacht club. From the Neolithic findings that came to light, it is speculated that in the region a settlement was developed, which survived until the late geometric period. It is supported tha Piraeus began to be settled in 2000BC. There are prehistoric settlements in Palia Kokinia and Keratsini (2600-2000BC.) In ancient times, in Pireaus, the heroletion was especially worshipped, who gave his name to the coast of letionia (Drapetsona's Kastraki). In our days remnants of letonia s fort gate are visible.
