As another Acropolis in central Athens, the old water tower in the old Gas factory in Athens invite us to visit it. Actually visiting the site, the challenge is strong, to climb on top of the three-storey renovated building and observe in one hand the downstream outer space of the factory and on the other hand the broader Athens with views points Acropolis, Hymettus, Lycabettus Hill, Mt. Aegaleo the sea Faliro and Piraeus. At no case certainly we can say that the classical Acropolis and the commonly called GASI - TECHNOPOLIS are competitive, but if we consider a range of 10 most important points to be visited in Athens for Greek visitors certainly GASI holds one of the first places between the ten.
The plant has experienced brilliant use and glory and gave life (light and heat) in many factories across Pireos Street and Athens. Today the old factory tells the story of Athens in the 19th and 20th centuries through the museum buildings with appropriate educational programs and scientific tours for all ages according to the opening hours of 10 am until late in the afternoon. So apart from the Centre there are 13 points to visit and have a rest at a very nice coffee. See more on the site of Technopolis and hear more from the hospitable municipal agents, as well as read also more in the informative smart brochures of it.
Below is an excerpt from the scientific background of the factory.
