The Frissiras Museum, the only Museum of Contemporary European Painting in Greece, was founded in December 2000 and is a nonprofit organization. It is located in Plaka (3, Monis Asteriou str.) in an elegant neoclassical building - built approximately in 1850 - which has been completely renovated by the Frissiras family, in order to meet the latest museum standards.
The Museum aims to support Contemporary European Painting as well as identify and establish new creators and artistic trends. More over, the Museum presents exhibitions of Greek and European artists in the context of a wider artstic exchange and organizes important solo retrospective exhibitions of established European painters.
The Museum.s collection, which also constitutes the core of its temporary exhibitions, consists of approximately 4,000 painting of contemporary Greek and European artists dating from the second half of the 20th century, a bequest of the of the Frissiras family.
